Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 12:01 pm The Dalles Chronicle, October 24, 2005 Yugo “Victor” Hinatsu, 79, a resident of The Dalles for 55 years, died at his residence on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005. He was born on March 20, 1926 in Portland, the fifth of eight children to Sataro and Chiye Hinatsu. He grew up and attended schools in the Gresham area. He was evacuated to Minidoka Relocation Center in Idaho in 1942, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945. He served in Germany, and was honorably discharged in October 1946. He attended OTI in Swan Island, Portland, and completed his apprenticeship as a certified radio technician at Harry’s Radio and TV in The Dalles. He owned and operated the business from 1981 until his retirement in October 1994. He had been a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church, serving in various capacities including treasurer. He enjoyed watching sports, traveling, and fishing with his special friend Clarence Brace. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Jane, whom he married in December 1952 in Portland; His son Steven and wife Shelley Hinatsu, The Dalles; his daughter Joan and husband Greg Riese, Yakima, Wash.; his five grandchildren Derek Hinatsu, Eugene; Melia and Kristen Hinatsu, Portland; Joel Riese, Kumamoto, Kyushu, Japan; and Beth Riese in Seattle; his five of eight brothers Kaz Hinatsu of Fruitland, Idaho; Norman and Nancy Hinatsu of Detroit, Mich.; Dan and Massie Hinatsu, Portland; Sam and Lorraine Hinatsu, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Henry and Sybil Hinatsu, Parma, Idaho; numerous nieces and nephews, including Stan and Sue Hinatsu and their three children in The Dalles. There will be a private family graveside service on Saturday, Oct. 29, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Faith Lutheran Church, 2810 W. 10th, The Dalles.
