Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 19, 2006, 11:48 pm The Dalles Chronicle, February 8, 2006 Phyllis Elaine Hettervig, 70, a resident of Tygh Valley, died at her home on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, after a short fight against cancer. She was born in Lawton, N.D., on June 26, 1935, the second of nine children to Mark and Ruby (Meader) Langton. She was raised in North Dakota where earned her teaching degree and taught school for five years. She married Paul Adriane Hettervig in Lawton on Dec. 27, 1954. She became a homemaker and mother of four children, two girls and two boys. They moved to Portland in 1956 where they lived for 35 years before retiring in Tygh Valley, where they have lived for 19 years. She was a member of the Lutheran Church, Elks, V.F.W. Post 5133, enjoyed reading, walking, gardening, being with her children and spending time with her sister and friends. She is survived by her husband Paul, Tygh Valley; her two sons, Mark Hettervig and his wife Cheryl, Carver; and Paul Christian Hettervig, Carver; her two daughters, Paula Raye Barker and her husband Tom, Estacada; and Peggy Sue Potter and her husband Troy, Portland; three grandchildren, Jason Paul Hettervig and Kyle and Kate Potter; her mother Ruby Langton; her sister Lola Schneiberg, Tygh Valley; five brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father and two brothers. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory, with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle St., The Dalles, OR 97058.
