The Dalles Chronicle, November 28, 2003
    Enos Ivan Herkshan Jr., 60, a resident of Warm Springs, died at the Madras 
hospital Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003.
     He was born Sept. 17, 1943 in Fort Klamath, the older of two children to 
Enos Ivan and Eleanor (Ellsworth) Herkshan. He was raised in Klamath Agency 
and graduated high school in Gresham. 
     He entered the U.S. Marines in 1961 and while in the service, he served 
in Laos, then in Vietnam. He received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and the 
Navy Unit Citation Award and was discharged as a staff sergeant in 1972.
     He returned to Warm Springs and at the time of his death served on the 
Board of Directors for the Warm Springs Forest Products Industries.
     He was a member of Northwest Indian Veteran’s Association and enjoyed 
coaching basketball, rodeo and horse racing.
     He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Herkshan, Warm Springs; five sons, 
Captain Moody; Keith Moody, both of Simnasho; Enos Ivan Guy Herkshan III, 
Vernal, Utah; twins, Leevi and Gunner Herkshan, both of Warm Springs; a 
daughter, Brandi Herkshan, Killeen, Texas; an adopted daughter, Kristina Fred 
Sampson, Lyle, Wash.; numerous grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Nelson, Redland; 
numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
     Private dressing services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell 
Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 28. Public viewing services will be held at 
Simnasho Long House on Friday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m. with funeral services 
following. Interment will be follow Saturday morning at Simnasho Cemetery.
