Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 7:51 pm The Dalles Chronicle, July 24, 2006 Jami Dyan Henslee, 21, the daughter of Mike and Karen Henslee and sister of Kim Henslee of Goldendale, died near Trout Lake on July 18, 2006, while driving a Caterpillar for SDS Lumber. She was born Feb. 27, 1985 in Goldendale. She attended all 13 years of school in Goldendale, graduating from GHS in 2003. In seventh grade she turned out for the all-boys football team. She also participated in track and field and basketball. She played AAU basketball from fourth grade to eighth grade, and as a freshman played varsity softball. She participated in the GHS softball program three of her high school years. She was named to the first-team All-Valley squad as a junior, and second-team All- Valley team as a senior. At 11, she began her working career as a newspaper carrier for The Goldendale Sentinel, which she did for three years, followed by working two summers at Alfasaga Farms Icelandic Horse ranch near Centerville. During her second summer, they began training her in English riding. She also worked for Dairy Queen and the Stone Haus restaurants in Goldendale. While in high school, she attended a women-in-trades fair in Portland. It was at that time she found she wanted to operate heavy equipment. Following graduation, she worked fighting fire for the Department of Natural Resources in 2003 and 2004. In January 2005, she attended West Coast Training, a heavy equipment school in Woodland. She completed her training just before her 20th birthday. She started the 2005 season with DNR, but took a different job flagging for road construction for the county. By the fall of 2005, she was working with the survey crew, which she did through December. In June, she started her job at SDS Lumber in Bingen. She was hired to drive a Cat. She was an avid reader and loved watching movies. She also enjoyed rollerblading, snowboarding, hiking. Survivors include her parents and sister; grandparents Ben and Janice Marx, Lincoln City; and Carl and Sharma Lomsdalen, Everett, Wash.; aunts Janelle Lomsdalen, Goldendale, Lanita Kottke and husband Doug, Kirkland, Barb Hudson and husband Ken, Yakima, and Terri Marx, Bellingham; uncles Kevin Marx and wife Deidra, The Dalles and Steve Henslee, Goldendale; cousins Doug, Shari and Ben Kottke, Aiden Marx, Sherri Hudson and Darlene McLean; close friend Anthony Ellis; and a host of other friends and relatives. A funeral service will be held July 26 at 11 a.m. at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Goldendale. A memorial fund has been established in her name at Riverview Community Bank.
