She was born March 11, 1907, in Lenoir, N.C., the oldest of five children to Horace Robert and Bessie Jane (Ingram) Miller. The family moved from North Carolina to Burns in 1910, back to Missouri in 1916, returning to Oregon in 1918. The family settled at Big Eddy where her father worked on The Dalles Celilo Canal. She graduated from The Dalles High School and married Emsley Carl Overman on Aug. 18, 1927, in The Dalles and they divorced in 1944. She married Earl P. Hendricks on Oct. 15, 1951, in Las Vegas, NV and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1991. She lived in The Dalles until moving to Costa Mesa, Calif. in 1950. She and her husband, Earl, moved to Molalla in 1964 and returned to The Dalles in 1979. In Molalla, she was active with the Rebekah Lodge and in The Dalles, was a member of the DAR. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, bowling and crocheting. She is survived by two sons, Carl J. and his wife, Shirley Overman, Sun City, Ariz. and Dick and his wife, LaVelle Overman, The Dalles; daughter-in- law, Jean Overman, Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Cynthia and her husband, Dan Irvin; Nancy and her husband, Jim Strange, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; Pam and her husband, Ron Moffitt, Redmond; Timothy Overman, Vancouver; Patrick and his wife, Shirley Overman, Bend; Dennis and his wife, Darla Overman, Vancouver; Kimberly Overman, Star, Idaho; Charles Overman, Vancouver; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 neices and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, John E. Overman, who died on Nov. 9, 1998. Memorial services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Friday, March 26, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Asa Jenson officiating. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with inurnment of cremains at The Dalles Odd Fellows Cemetery on Three Mile Road. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1311 NW 21st Avenue, Portland, OR 97209.
