Wakley iwakley@msn.com and August 3, 2006, 12:35 am The Dalles Chronicle, April 28, 2006 John William Heiser, 91, died at his home in Hood River on April 24, 2006. A resident of The Dalles for 48 years, he was born in Redmond, Wash., to Ethel and John Heiser on April 27, 1915. He was a child of the Depression and a veteran of World War II. With his wife of 63 years, Eleanor, he enjoyed creating in his wood shop, working in his garden or volunteering in his community through youth sports, or the Elks and Eagles clubs. After retirement from The Dalles Dam, he and his wife explored the mountains and deserts of the West in their camper and trailer. A lover of nature, he was an avid fisherman and spent many hours on the banks of the Deschutes and Metolius rivers. His wife, Eleanor, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Luanne Heiser, Hood River; and his daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Bill Karr, Friday Harbor, Wash. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held in The Dalles on June 23, at the Windseeker Restaurant, at 1 p.m. A light lunch will be provided. Remembrances may be sent to Hospice of the Gorge, P.O.
