The Dalles Chronicle, May 23, 2004
     Thomas Vernon Haynes, 71, a former resident of The Dalles and a resident 
of Springfield for much of his life, died May 15, 2004. 
     He was born Nov. 10, 1932 in The Dalles, to Thomas and Doris (Yates) 
Haynes.
     He grew up in The Dalles and and attended The Dalles High School where he 
was a star athlete. He also lived in Salem for several years. 
     He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked as a driver 
for Darigold Creameries. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping and 
University of Oregon football. 
     He married Myrna C. Pickett in Springfield on Aug. 6, 1960. She died on 
Aug. 24, 2002.
     Survivors include daughters Carmen and her husband Rick Nashholm, 
Springfield; Cindy Gowing and her husband, Harlan, Eugene and Tracy Morton, 
Portland; a son, Angel Ocasbio and his wife, Kathy, Vancouver; two brothers, 
Richard Haynes, Blue River; and Gary Haynes, The Dalles; 13 grandchildren and 
one great-grandchild. 
     He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Haynes. 
     No funeral services are planned. Memorials may be made to the American 
Cancer Society of Children International.
     The Major Family Funeral Home of Springfield is in care of arrangements.
