He was born December 28, 1928, in The Dalles, the oldest of four sons to Thomas J. and Doris Lois (Yates) Haynes. He grew up and graduated from high school in The Dalles. He worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation, highway maintenance division and retired in 1990. He was a member of the First Christian Church and former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and Cherry Park Grange. He enjoyed traveling and in his younger days, the outdoors, hunting and photography. He is survived by his wife, E. Mae (Brock) Haynes, whom he married February 4, 1978, in The Dalles; his brothers, Tom Haynes, Salem (Oregon); Richard Haynes, Brookings (Oregon), and Gary Haynes, The Dalles; children, Madeline Wood, Oakland, Arizona; Arthur Dixon and Susan Taylor, The Dalles, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Frank Dixon in July 1988 and sisters-in-law, Myrna Haynes in August 2000 and Linda Haynes in March 2002. Private family services will be held. Private cremation was at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
