Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 10:40 pm The Dalles Chronicle, November 15, 2005 Floyd Elridge “Bud” Hawkins, 79, a resident of The Dalles, died at his home on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005. He was born in Blunt County, Ala., on Feb. 2, 1926 the fifth of six children to James and Myrtle (Cowline) Hawkins. He grew up on the family farm in Alabama. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII, where he served aboard the Charles R. Ware and the O.S.S. Alt DD865, after which he returned home to Alabama. He married Flora Mae Robinson on June 20, 2950 in Georgia, moved to The Dalles in 1951 where he worked as a heavy tire man for Woolsey’s and Cody’s. He enjoyed fishing, camping, tinkering on old cars and being with his family. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Flora Mae of 55 years; his sons, Floyd S. Hawkins and his wife Jola, The Dalles; Roy E. Hawkins and his wife Sandi, The Dalles; grandchildren, JR Hawkins, Anderson, S.C.; Laurie Bilbrey, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Jasen Tennison, The Dalles; Rusty Tennison, Wasco; Roy Lee Hawkins, The Dalles; Christopher Hawkins, The Dalles; Robert Burrows, Jr. of Keizur; Chuck Burrows, Tualatin; Kerry Lynn Christopherson, West Jordan, Utah; and Brandon Burrows, Tallahassee, Fla.; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Ruth Saunders of Birmingham, Ala. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Minnie Hawkins and Lucille Washington; his brothers, Homer and Earnest Hawkins. Viewing visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 8:30 a.m. through the time of services at 2 p.m. at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with Asa Jenson officiating. Graveside services will follow at IOOF Cemetery on Three Mile Road.
