Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 17, 2006, 1:34 am The Dalles Chronicle, January 9, 2006 Charles Everett “Chuck” Harmon, 82, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility Friday, Jan. 6, 2006. He was born April 3, 1923 in Enterprise, the oldest of five children to Asa Curtis Harmon and Mattie Elizabeth (Fisher) Harmon. He graduated from Enterprise High School. After high school, he moved to Pendleton, where he attended NYA Tech school until he joined the Army in 1942. He served in the Army until 1946, when he received an Honorable Discharge. He married Louise Helen Campbell in June of 1944 in La Grande. They moved to Pendleton for 7 years, then to Madras for a year, and then settled in The Dalles in 1953. He worked in the retail business for several years, was active in the Jaycees club where he earned a district service award, became involved in the Boy Scouts of America organization until he started working for the Harvey Aluminum plant, which later became Commonwealth Aluminum, for 26 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he later served as a deacon. He was in the Archery club, on a bowling league, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, flying model airplanes, and wood working. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Louise Harmon, The Dalles; his daughter Christy Turner and her husband James, The Dalles; his son Ace Harmon and his wife Noo, Concord, Calif.; daughter Nancy Ayres and her husband Earl, The Dalles; son Byron Harmon and his wife Tania, Vancouver, Wash.; son Craig Harmon, Enterprise; son Randy Harmon and his wife Cheryl, The Dalles; Grandchildren Ben Turner and his wife Marie; Amy Buchanan and her husband Edson; Katy Linker and her husband Jacob; Simi Harmon; Bethany Ayres and her partner Dylan Mc Manus; Matthew Ayres; Brittany Hayes; Ashley Harmon; Tyler Harmon; Kevin Harmon; Kyle Harmon; Josh Harmon; Jacob Harmon and his wife Christy; Great Grandchildren Harmony Turner; Ethan Turner; Connor Turner; Ivan Turner; Dylan Buchanan; and Jadyn Buchanan; His half sister Phyllis Taylor and her husband Richard, La Grande; half brother Jack Harmon and his wife Una Mae, The Dalles; half sister Dixie Miller and her husband Skip, Cloverdale, Calif.; and half brother David Harmon and his wife Paulette, Clarksville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter Sharon K. Harmon, his step-mother Lena Hix, and step-father Charley Hix. Viewing visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006 at Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home at 10 a.m., with services starting at 2 p.m., Marvin Jones officiating. Graveside services will follow at IOOF 3 Mile cemetery. A reception will be held following the graveside service at the First United Methodist Church, 302 East 11th street. Remembrances may be to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1311 NW 21st Ave, Portland, OR 97209, and to First United Methodist Church, 305 East 11th Street, The Dalles, OR 97058.
