The Dalles Weekly Reminder, April 26, 1984
     Relatives and close friends of Mary Hammell were invited to her funeral 
services with recitation of the rosary on Sunday, April 22, at Smith Callaway 
Chapel and mass of Christian burial on Monday, April 23, at St. Peter Catholic 
Church.  Vault entombment was in the church cemetery.

     Mrs. Hammel was born Oct 12, 1880 in Iowa and died April 19 at a nursing 
home here.

     Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Hammel, Portland; a stepson, Frank 
Hammel, The Dalles; 7 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren, great-
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

     Her husband, Eugene Hammel and two stepsons, Leo Sr. and Eugene W., have 
died.

     Mrs. Hammel had lived here 60 years.  Casket bearers were William, Neal, 
Robert and Michael Hammel; John and Carlton Clausen.  Memorials may be made to 
St. Mary's Academy or charity.
