She was born April 7, 1925, in The Dalles, the only child of Eugene and Mary (Gilroy) Hammel. She was raised near The Dalles, attended St. Mary’s Academy and moved to the Portland area in the 1960s. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mildred and Ruth Hammel, both of The Dalles; three nephews, Leo Hammel Jr.; Frank Hammel Jr. and Bill Hammel, all of The Dalles; four nieces, Jeanne Robertson; Barbara Hammel, both of Portland; Imelda Patterson, Spokane, and Elleene Jones, Springfield; several great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Thursday, June 24, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Todd Unger as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.
