Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 11:19 pm The Dalles Chronicle, December 7, 2005 Joseph Jerome Halliday, 75, a longtime resident of The Dalles, died on Dec. 4, 2005 following a brief illness. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and a friend to many. He was the second of five children born in Cormorant, Minn., to Daniel and Sigrid Halliday on March 24, 1930. He settled with his family in The Dalles in 1960, following time in Seattle and Lynnwood, Wash., and Portland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Merchant Marines. He retired from Bonneville Power Administration in 1986 after 26 years of service. He loved to volunteer in order to help those in need. His volunteer work included helping out at Mid-Columbia Medical Center, working with Habitat for Humanity, teaching adults to read at Columbia Gorge Community College and tutoring youths for NORCOR. He was an active member of Gateway Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lorna; his sons, Paul Halliday, The Dalles; Michael and his wife Cheryl Halliday, Wilsonville; his daughter, Susan Halliday, Corvallis; his sisters and brother, Marie Handegard, David Halliday both of Fargo, N.D.; Louise Lindstrom, Fergus Falls, Minn.; and Shirley Giere, Wilmar, Minn., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Curtis Michael Halliday. Memorial services will be held at Gateway Presbyterian Church in The Dalles on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. with Pastor James Hazlett officiating. here will be a luncheon to follow. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Memorials may be to Gateway Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity, Volunteer Services at MCMC or the Oregon Veterans Home Activities Department.
