Hallett, 67, a former resident of Dufur and a resident of Condon, died at the local hospital Friday, March 18, 2005. He was born Dec. 17, 1937 in San Francisco, the second of three children to Winslow Lewis and Evelyn Frances (Wilson) Hallett. He was raised in the San Francisco and the Suisun, Calif., area and attended schools in San Francisco. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He then moved to Portland, where he worked miscellaneous jobs until he started work for Wilhelm Trucking. He married Viola Jane Harlin on Dec. 20, 1980 in Tigard. They moved to Dufur in 1985 and to Condon in September 2003. He was a member of the Catholic Church, NRA, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, leatherwork and horses. He is survived by his wife, Viola J. Hallett, Condon; eight children, Randy Dean Hallett and his companion, Becky, Forest Grove; William Joseph Hallett, Hyannis Port, Ma.; Tina Marie Hallett and her companion, John, Hillsboro; Penny and her husband, Marty Wynne, Jeanette McGann and Shelly Phelps, all of Portland; Sheryl Smith, Darryl and his wife, Jenny Houghtelling, all of Condon; 14 grandchildren, Jesse, Ryan, Sara, Brandon, Marissa, Chris, Angela, Eric, Bryan, Brandon, Cody, Cecilia, Amanda and Nathan and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Hallett-Corn, Rolling Meadows, Ill.; and Evelyn “Happy” Marinovich, Fairfield, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 25, with Asa Jenson officiating. Cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to Condon Ambulance Service, c/o Gilliam County Medical Center, 422 N Main St, Condon, OR 97823.
