Surnames: Guyer, Peckham, Sheldon, Stevens, Barnwell Mary E. Guyer, 81, of Bend (Oregon), Roseburg (Oregon) and The Dalles died Wednesday, April 30 of Parkinson's complications. She was born on December 25, 1921 in Rantoul, Kansas to May and Harry Peckham. She was raised in Kansas and attended Baker University graduating in education. She joined the Coast Guard in June 1943 and served for three years as a Chief Commissary Steward. She taught high school home economics and math in Pennsylvania and California. She married Francis E. Guyer on May 29, 1948 in Quincy, California. After teaching school she worked as a regional distributor for the Sacramento Bee in California and then for the State of Nevada as a systems research analyst. She and her husband retired in 1984 and spent 2 years traveling throughout the United States. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, volunteering for reading programs and gardening. She has been affiliated with the United Methodist Church in Portola, the Green Church of Roseburg, First Presbyterian Church of South Lake Tahoe and Bend and the Oregon Veterans Home church and Bible study. Survivors include one brother, James Peckham of Rantoul, Kansas, three daughters; Jennifer Sheldon and family of Bend, Wendy Stevens and husband of Bend, Mary Lynn Barnwell and family of Venezuela; 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren and her good friend Willie Copperstone. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Penelope. A celebration of life, will be held in Bend on Thursday, May 8th at Judy's In The Garden at 105 NW Greeley Avenue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Burial service will be Friday, May 16 at 1 p.m. at the Roseburg National Cemetery at 913 Garden Valley Boulevard. A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 2 p.m. at the Green Community Church in Roseburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Bob Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136-1494. Local arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
