She was born July 31, 1911, in The Dalles Hospital. She was the youngest of seven children born to James H. and Elizabeth (Wickman) Gibson. She was raised in The Dalles and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1929. After graduation, she attended The Dalles Hospital School of Nursing, later taking medical laboratory and x-ray training. She worked in clinics and hospitals in Prairie City, John Day, Pendleton and The Dalles. She was a member of the Celilo Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, The Dalles Emblem Club #406, The Dalles Art Association, Fort Dalles Rodeo Association, Wasco County Pioneers, The Dalles Senior Center, and for many years was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs. She enjoyed making quilts for her family and donating them to organizations in The Dalles, reading and puzzles. She married, George W. Otey in 1931 and is survived by their three sons, Harvey Dean, Robert James and Gerald Lee; she married her second husband, Thomas E. Swales in the early 1940’s and is survived by her daughter, Patricia Joanne; she married her third husband, George R. Grossmiller in 1965 and he preceded her in death in 1982. She is survived by 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by all of her siblings. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, and on Thursday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. Graveside services will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, with Bishop Jason Corey officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
