Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 10:59 pm The Dalles Chronicle, November 22, 2005 Antone “Ray” Raymond Gonzales, 72, a resident of The Dalles for 16 years, died at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005. He was born June 25, 1933, in Pumpkin Ridge, near Elgin, the second child to Joseph Henry and Amelia Anna (Thompson) Gonzales. He grew up in Pumpkin Ridge and attended school in Elgin. He was district maintenance superintendent with Bonneville Power Administration for 35 years. Throughout his career, he continued a high level course work in engineering and management, which saw him rise from a proud lineman to the top levels of management at BPA. As a project manager he had major responsibilities for challenging high voltage and high tower construction projects. He has received numerous awards and accolades including, United States Department of Energy Superior Performance, 35 years Dedicated Service Award from Bonneville Power Administration, certification to install fiber-optic design and installation and a formal recognition for saving crew members’ lives in hazardous conditions at least twice from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was an outdoorsman, pilot, poet and a loving dad and grandpa. He was a member of The Dalles Country Club and the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, earned his pilot’s license in 1968, enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, camping, reading and traveling all over the world. He is survived by his wife, Louise Jane (Hallerbarter) Ulvin Gonzales, whom he married Dec. 1, 1980, in Spokane, Wash.; his son, Joseph Gonzales and his wife, Jeanne; his daughters, and their spouses, Amber and Ed Laite and Melissa and Joseph McNeal; his stepsons and their spouses, Tom and Karyl Lea Ulvin and Mark and Mary Ulvin; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Unger officiating. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
