The Dalles Chronicle, November 30, 2005
     Violet “Vi” Marie Catharine Gole, 89, a resident of The Dalles, died at 
the local hospital on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005.
     She was born on May 18, 1916 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, the oldest of 
four sisters to Frederick and Frieda Katherine (Yendt) Grein. She grew up and 
attended school in Waterloo. 
     She married John George Gole on June 3, 1939 in Kitchener, Ontario, 
Canada. They became US Citizens on June 5, 1957. She was a housewife and 
helped with the family farm in Canada and Brainerd, Minn. until her husband’s 
death in 1986. She moved to Page, Ariz. in 1991 and lived there until moving 
to The Dalles in 1997.
     She was proud of her strong Lutheran Faith and was an active church 
member for her entire life. She enjoyed being with her family, volunteering at 
Mid-Columbia Medical Center, baking, gardening, quilting, knitting, sewing, 
growing African violets, reading, “debating” and had a special love for German 
Shepherd dogs. She was not ready to pass yet; she always stated that she still 
had many things to do.
     She is survived by her children, Dianne and her husband David Storby, The 
Dalles; Robert and his wife Karmel Gole of Bedford, Texas; and son-in-law Gary 
Butz of Northwood, N.D.; six grandchildren, Eric and his wife Penny Butz of 
Minot, N.D., John and his wife Bonnie Butz of Northwood, N.D., Natalie Chaplin 
of Bedford, Texas, Rob Gole of Bedford, Texas, Lissa and her husband Frank 
Hoglund of Mesa, Ariz., and Seth Storby of Tacoma, Wash.; five great 
grandchildren, Marie, Gary and Stephen Butz and Annika and Alyssa Hoglund; her 
sister Rita Merral of Ontario, Canada.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John George Gole, 
her daughter Patricia in February of 2004 and two sisters.
     Private cremation was held at Win-Quatt Crematory in The Dalles with 
Spencer, Libby & Powell in care of arrangements. 
     Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday Dec. 2, 2005 at Faith 
Lutheran Church, 2810 W. 10th St., The Dalles, with Rev. John Westhafer 
officiating and Pastor Lawrence Locke assisting. Organist is Janette Bohren.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Organ Fund, 2810 W. 6th St.,

E. 19th St., The Dalles, OR 97058.
