Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 31, 2006, 3:24 pm The Dalles Chronicle, September 27, 2006 Former First Christian Church pastor Halder “Hal” Marcel Glover, 90, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006. He closely followed his wife, who died Sept. 6. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two siblings. He was born in Eula, Texas on Sept. 13, 1916, the oldest of six children to Martin Lee and Iota Glover. He lived in Texas, Alabama, and California where he attended school. He had a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in theology. He served in the U.S. Cavalry and U.S. Army. He married Elva “Ruth” Vogt in Vancouver, Wash., on July 9, 1940. He was a pastor at First Christian Church for nine years and of seven churches in four other states. He recently attended Life in Christ Center. He was a teacher, a reading specialist and founder of “Foundation Phonics.” He enjoyed stained glass, ham radios and upholstery. He is survived by his son, Jeff Glover and his wife Beverly, Bakersfield, Calif.; his two daughters, Holly Kessler and her husband Dick, The Dalles; and Lynn Halsey and her husband Tony, The Dalles; seven grandchildren, Ben Kessler and his wife Mary Beth, Kristen Burns and her husband Abe, Shannon McIlroy and her husband Darin, Jeremy Stockett and his wife Joy, Jeff Stockett and his wife Beth, Ashley Glover, and Ryan Glover; four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ian, Luke and Ali; his sisters, Bonnie Compton, Virginia Stover and Ruth McCardia. Viewing visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday Sept. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church, 909 Court St. in The Dalles. Julius Jepson of Life in Christ Center and Mike Wilson and Danny Chamberlin of First Christian Church will be the officiates. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery Threemile. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle Ave., The Dalles, OR 97058.
