     Ruth Margaret Gangwer, 91, a resident of The Dalles, died Friday, Sept. 
10, 2004 at a local care facility.
     She was born Nov. 13, 1912, the youngest of six children to William and 
Ida Lehr in Mulberry, Ind., where she was raised and married Everett Gangwer 
on Oct. 29, 1929. 
     The couple lived in Indiana, Iowa, Washington and Oregon. They settled in 
the Pine Grove area of Hood River County in 1941 where they operated a dairy 
farm. After the family was grown, she went to work packing fruit and as a cook 
at the middle school in Odell. In 1983, she retired and they moved to The 
Dalles to be near family. 
     She was a member of The Dalles Evangelical Church and enjoyed her family, 
friends, reading, flower gardening and ceramics.
     She is survived by her seven children and their spouses; Jack and Norma 
Gangwer, Arlington, Wash.; Gene and Beverly Gangwer, Rossville, Ind.; David 
and Lois Gangwer, McCall, Idaho; Betsy Johnson and Jerry Tanquist, The Dalles; 
Fredrick and Betty Gangwer, The Dalles; Linda and Arlen Walters, Camas, Wash.; 
and Karen and Harvey Harrington, Baker City; 26 grandchildren, 54 great 
grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 
her husband in April 1999, her sisters and brothers, a son-in-law, Kenneth 
Johnson and two great granddaughters.
     Private graveside services were held at Three Mile IOOF Cemetery. 
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, at The Dalles 
Evangelical Church with Rev. Douglas Marquardt officiating. 
     Memorials may be made to The Dalles Evangelical Church, 1001 East 12th 
St., The Dalles, OR 97058. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of 
arrangements.
