The Dalles Chronicle, March 3, 2004
     Daphne “Jean” Rose Fruitt, 76, a resident of The Dalles, died at her 
home, surrounded by her family Monday, March 1, 2004.
     She was born June 27, 1927, in St. Neots, England, the only child to Port 
Arthur and Vera Phyllis (Basson) Medlock. 
     She met Rodney Martin Fruitt in St. Neots while he was serving in the 
U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and they were married Oct. 29, 1945. 
After his tour of duty in England, they settled in Brownsville, Ore., on his 
family farm, where they farmed and raised their four children. In 1994, they 
moved to The Dalles.
     She was a member of Methow Valley Eastern Star and was a 50-year member 
of Charity Grange in Harrisburg. She was a former 4H Leader, row boss, egg 
grader, cook and waitress, and her most valuable job was being a wife and 
mother.
     She was an excellent seamstress and had a love of gardening, providing 
enough to feed family and friends. 
     She is survived by her husband, Rodney M. Fruitt, The Dalles; two sons, 
Steve and his wife, Cathy Fruitt, Klamath Falls; and Jim and his wife, Kathy 
Fruitt, Corvallis; two daughters, Phyllis Michelsen, Twisp, Wash.; and Yvonne 
and her husband, Michael Ward, Albany; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-
grandchildren.
     Graveside services will be held at Alford Cemetery in Harrisburg with a 
potluck social at Charity Grange following, time and date to be announced 
later. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with 
Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

OR 97224-7711.
