The Dalles Chronicle, April 8, 2004
     Roger Allen Fitzgerald, 67, a resident of The Dalles, died at his home of 
a sudden illness on Tuesday, April 6, 2004. 
     He was born Jan. 24, 1937 in The Dalles, the oldest of seven children to 
Edward August and Anna Beatrice (Ryan) Fitzgerald. 
     He was raised in The Dalles and attended St. Mary's Academy and The 
Dalles High School. 
     He served in the U.S. Navy from Aug. 1, 1956 until June 1960 and then 
returned to The Dalles working for The Dalles Chronicle as a printer. He 
followed the newspaper work to Napa and Roseville, California. 
     He returned to The Dalles in 1967 and went to work for Martin Marietta 
Aluminum in The Dalles and later in Goldendale. In the early 90's, he started 
working for Jerry's Janitorial and continued to work until his retirement in 
2003. 
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and craft work. 
     He was also the founder and president of the Columbia River Demolition 
Derby Club. 
     He is survived by his four children, Cindy and her husband, Jim 
Nicholson, Federal Way, Wash.; Tim Fitzgerald, Portland; Jim and his wife, Kim 
Fitzgerald, Hillsboro, and Barbara and her husband, Scott Snyder, The Dalles; 
six grandchildren, Annalise, Joshua, Ryan, Megan, Emily and Abby; one brother, 
Michael Fitzgerald, Keizer; two sisters, Kathleen and her husband, David 
Culver, Tacoma and Margaret "Peggy" Fitzgerald, Eugene; his ex-wife, Kathy 
Knight, The Dalles. 
     He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Timothy, 
Patrick and Edward J. Fitzgerald.
     Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home 
on Saturday, April 10 from 9 to noon. 
     Graveside services will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery on 
Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Todd Unger officiating. 
     Memorials may be made to Thanksgiving Community Meal, c/o Cousins’ 
Restaurant, 2116 W. Sixth, The Dalles, OR 97058.
