She was born Feb. 15, 1918, in Grass Valley, the oldest of two children to William Craig and Birtha Buelah (Eslinger) Patterson. The family lived on a farm near Grass Valley and in the early 30’s, they moved to a farm near Wasco. She graduated from Wasco High School in the Class of 1935 and married Thomas Leonard Fields on Sept. 6, 1935, in Wasco. They farmed in Wasco, raising wheat, cattle and horses. In the late 50’s and 60’s, they raised and ran race horses. She was a member of Annie Fulton Chapter of Eastern Star, Oregon Wheat League and the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association. She was active with the Sherman County Fair, having served as the queen chaperone for over 20 years. She enjoyed horses, gardening and traveling in her RV. She is survived by her two sons, John and his wife, Nancy Fields, Wasco; Virgil L. Fields, Gooding, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Karen Fields, Shoshone, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Rex Brown and his wife, Kerry Lynne, Portland; Carole Brown and her husband, Mike Ruikka, Duluth, Minn.; Tammy Fields, Moro; Tracy and his wife, Patti Fields, and Trevor Fields, all of Wasco; Steven and Roger Fields, both of Shoshone; 10 great-granchildren, Shelley, Ryan, Kyle, Shaina, Julianna, Bradley, Cierra, Alex, Kyle and Wade; her brother, William Eugene Patterson, Eugene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1981, her daughter, Sally Brown, in 1973 and her grandson, Travis Fields in 1981. Memorial services will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Saturday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. with Asa Jenson officiating. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
