Dingle Fields, 95, died in Portland Aug. 17. She lived near Rufus most of her life, but recently was living with her daughter in Portland. Mrs. Fields was born Feb. 21, 1892, near rufus. She was brought into the world with the assistance of a neighbor, Grandma Fowler, and attended schools at China Hollow, Grant, Rufus, Wasco and St. Mary's Academy in The Dalles. She was married to Tracy L. Fields June 4,1911. They lived on farms and retired in 1950 to build a house in Rufus where they lived for 25 years. After that they moved to The Dalles and lived at Camlu Apartments for five years. Mrs. Fields was a member of Annie Fulton #78 O.E.S. of Wasco, an honorary member of the Wasco Women's Federated Club, joining that club in 1915. She was also a member of the Rufus Grange and past president of the Sherman County Historical Society. She was a member of the Wasco Church of Christ since 1913 and later moved to the First Christian Church in The Dalles in 1977. While she lived in Portland, she was a member of the Christian Church along with her daughter. Her husband preceded her in death in 1982. A son, Leonard, also preceded her in death in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Thyra Bains; two grandsons, John and Virgil Fields; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. Services were held at the IOOF Memorial Mausoleum in The Dalles, officiated by the Rev. Ronald Coleman. Memorials are suggested to the Sherman County Historical Society in care of Mrs. Larry Kaseberg, Wasco, Ore., 97065. Smith Callaway Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
