The Dalles Weekly Reminder, January 8, 1988
     Edward Ficken, 96, died at a local nursing home Dec. 26.  He had been a 
resident of The Dalles since 1982.
     Mr. Ficken was born Nov. 1, 1891, in Elmore, Minn.  He was raised in the 
Blue Earth, Minn., area.  In 1910 he filed for a homestead in Morgan County, 
Colo., and was a farmer for many years, also working in the oil fields in 
Wyoming and Montana.  He married Signa Johnson in 1912, and she died in 1919.  
He later married Thelma Trimble of Grass Valley.  He enjoyed all sports.  He 
was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
     He is survived by his wife Thelma of The Dalles; a son, Howard Ficken of 
Powell, Wyo.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held in Fort Morgan, Colo.  Spencer, Libby and 
Powell Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
