The Dalles Chronicle, November 14, 2005
     Helen Joan Fassbender, 58, a longtime resident of Hood River, died in 
Pendleton on Nov. 11, 2005.
     She was born Jan. 13, 1947 in Pendleton.
     She moved to Pendleton two months ago and also had lived for many years 
in Hermiston.
     During her childhood, she moved to Hood River, where she met her future 
husband, James Leroy Fassbender. They were married on May 10, 1968 in Port 
Angeles, Wash.
     They moved to Hermiston to raise their family and later moved to Hood 
River. She worked for Wal-Mart for 14 years.
     Survivors include her mother, Dorthy Bennett, Pendleton; daughters, Cindy 
Pinkston, The Dalles; Shannon Severns and son-in-law Randy Severns, Pendleton; 
and Melinda Harris and son-in-law Robert Harris, Pendleton; 11 grandchildren 
and one great-grandson and many friends.
     She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Bennett, and her husband, 
James Leroy Fassbender in 2001.
     A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to 
a charity of the donor’s choice through Burns Mortuary of Pendleton, which is 
in charge of arrangements.
