Wakley iwakley@msn.com and August 20, 2006, 1:22 am The Dalles Chronicle, June 1, 2006 Floyd Lazell Eveland, 79, a resident of Shelton, Wash. and a former resident of Tygh Valley, died of natural causes on May 28, 2006 at his home in Shelton. He had lived in Shelton for the past 10 months. He was born on April 12, 1927 to Stephen and Lola (DeWitt) Eveland. He left Missouri in 1939 and moved to Thorpe, Wash. Later he moved to Seattle where his father worked in the ship yards. He then moved to Selah, Wash. and went to work at 14 years old and worked until 1945 when he married Clydia Phipps. He worked as a farmer until 1954 when he moved to Wamic to work with his father, brothers and uncle for Cody Logging. In 1955 he moved to Sandy to do high line logging and later he and his dad ran the general store in Tygh Valley. He went to Poulsbo, Wash. and back into logging then left for Quincy, Wash. in 1961 to go back into farming and in 1963 the family moved back to Tygh Valley to work for Ken Webb until Floyd had an accident and started driving school bus. He then worked for Tygh Valley Sand and Gravel for 17 years and later went to Condon to help his son farm. Later he and his wife and son Ray went to St. Helens to run a feed store after which he retired. On January 20 of this year, they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. He had been in declining health for many years but still enjoyed his family, especially his great grandchildren. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Tygh Valley, a 25 year member of the Eagles Lodge in The Dalles and retired as a member of the Teamster Union. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, children and grandchildren, the outdoors, mountains, camping and horseback riding. Survivors include his wife, Clydia, Shelton; two sons, Steve and his wife, Terry, El Paso, Texas; and Ray and his wife Janet, Shelton; two daughters, Floydette Allington and her husband, Leonard, Burns; and Clydette Walker and her husband, Jerry, Redmond; two sisters, Dorothy Bradley, Kingston, Wash. and June Eveland, Montana; nine grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Margie Bradley and Bonnie Kentner; a brother, Nelson Eveland; and one grandson, Jered Eveland. A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church in Tygh Valley on Friday, June 2, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Holland officiating. McComb Funeral Home of Shelton is in care of arrangements.
