He lived in Hood River for 21 years before moving to The Dalles in 1967. Mr. Evans was born Nov. 18, 1911 in Clarkston, Wash., and participated in track and football there. He managed an orchard in Hood River for 21 years before coming to The Dalles. He and his wife were active in the Salvation Army here and managed the Thrift Store before he retired a few years ago. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Nora, The Dalles; three sons, Charles Vern Evans, The Dalles, Merle A. and Robert E. Evans both of Bellingham, Wash.; a daughter, Sue E. Sass, Moranville, Alberta, Canada; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Friday at Smith Callaway Chapel with Capt. Ross Allemang officiating. Burial followed at the Cascade Locks Cemetery. Casket bearers were Robert H., Michael A., Leroy M. and C. Vern Evans, John T. and Russell Woodward. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
