Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 21, 2006, 11:24 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, September 22, 1995 Bonney Ross Duus, 79, The Dalles, died at his son's home on Sept. 11, 1995. He was born in Maupin on March 1, 1916, the eldest of three children to Carl and Pauline Dolly (DeCamp) Duus. He grew up and graduated from high school in 1934, in Maupin. He attended Oregon State College and Oregon Institute of Technology. He married Denise Germaine Cano on June 24, 1944 during World War II in Turgot, Algeria, North Africa, while serving in the US Army. After the service, they returned to Maupin to farm in the Criterion area. In the mid-1950s, he went to work as an electrican with Wasco R.E.A., retiring as assistant manager in the mid-1970s. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. He is survived by his son, Paul Duus, and his wife, Lynn, of The Dalles; seven grandchildren; sister, Louise Slowik and brothers, Rex Duus, both of Portland. Viewing visitation on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 2 p.m. through Recitation of Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Sept. 15, the Rev. Ronald Maag as celebrant. Entombment was in The Dalles IOOF Memorial Mausoleum. Memorials: Hospice of the Gorge in care of Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles.
