Dubuque, 55, a resident of The Dalles, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at the local hospital. He was born Feb. 6, 1948 in Louisville, Ky., to Lt. Lionel L. and Mary Catherine (Bladen) Dubuque and grew up in Richmond, Ind. He received a bachelor’s degree in physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1970. Following his undergraduate studies he received a master’s degree in nuclear engineering in 1972 and a doctorate in nuclear science with a specialty in radiological physics in 1974 from the University of Cincinnati. He had been an instructor in medical physics at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver and a radiological physicist at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha before serving as the chief medical physicist at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Mass., from 1986 to 1996. A widely published author in his field, with articles in the International Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Biology, the International Journal of Radiological Oncology and Biological Physics, he came to The Dalles from the Cape Cod area a little over a year ago to work as a medical physicist at the Celilo Radiation Center at Mid-Columbia Medical Center. He was a member of the American College of Radiology, the American Radium Society, the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, the North American Hypothermia Group, Who’s Who In America in Science and Engineering, and was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2126 and the Sons of The American Legion. Survivors include his daughter, Alison Dubuque, Pueblo, Colo.; his sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Todd Gunnell, Wilmington, N.C.; a niece and nephew, Kristen and Bryan Gunnell; and his fiancé Linda Mackie, The Dalles. He was preceded in death by his father and by his mother and step-father. A celebration of life service will be held at the Fireside Room of the Civic Auditorium from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, featuring sharing of memories and a light meal. Memorial contributions may be made to the Celilo Radiation & Oncology Center, 1700 East 19th Street, The Dalles, OR 97058. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
