The Dalles Chronicle, May 26, 2006
     Rev. Robert F. Dowrey, 75, a retired United Methodist Minister and 11-
year resident of The Dalles, died at his home on May 24, 2006.
     He was born Feb. 21, 1931 in Lowell, Mass., to Charles and Jennie Dowrey.
     He attended school in Lowell and received his undergraduate degree from 
Tufts University, and served in the US Army as a medical technician at Walter 
Reid Hospital in Washington D.C. 
     While at Walter Reid, he received his call to ministry. After graduating 
from The University of Chicago Theological Seminary with a master of divinity 
degree, he moved to Oregon and served the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference of 
the United Methodist Church for 36 years. 
     During his ministry, he served Oregon churches in Medford, Rainier, 
Weston, Sutherlin, Wilbur, Wash.; Wasco, Arlington, North Powder, Union, 
Portland, Nehalem, Garibaldi, and Heppner. He also served Idaho churches in 
American Falls, Aberdeen, Glenns Ferry, and King Hill.
     In 1961 he married Catherine Carter, his wife of 44 years. Together they 
had a son John, who predeceased him, and two daughters, Leslie and Jennifer.
     Survivors include his wife Cathy; children Leslie and Brad Gover, 
Scappoose, and Jennifer and Chris Fridley, Milwaukie, and three grandchildren, 
Christopher, Steven, and Katie survive.
     Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 1 at First 
United Methodist Church in The Dalles.
     Memorial gifts may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or The 
Oregon-Idaho Camp and Retreat Ministries in care of First UM Church, 305 East 
11th St., The Dalles, OR 97058. Cards and letters to the family may also be 
sent to the above address.
