Wakley iwakley@msn.com and June 18, 2006, 2:29 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, Feb 5, 1982 John Mitchell Dougherty, 69, a resident of Mosier since 1960, died Jan. 31 at the local hospital. He was born Aug. 7, 1912 in Elgin to John C. and Myrtle F. Dougherty, a pioneer family in the Tillamook area. He served 17 years in the U.S. Navy and Merchant Marines and was a veteran of World War II. He was co-founder of the Mid-Columbia Old Time Music Club and was a lifetime member of the Oregon Old Time Fiddlers Association. He was also a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Hood River. Mr. Dougherty and his family settled in the Hood River Valley in 1957, and moved to Mosier three years later. Survivors include his wife, Hazel A., Mosier; three sons, John and Ralph in Hood River and Terry in The Dalles, three daughters, Shirley Brewer, Hood River, Janice DeHart, North Bonnevile, Wash., and Diane Dougherty, Portland, eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a sister, Evelyn Magee, Tillamook. Memorial services will be today (Friday) at 3 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 13th and Oak Sts., Hood River, with the Pastor Tom Sanford officiating. Memorials may be made to the Hood River Seventh Day Adventist Church Memorial Fund. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
