     Lela May Byers Dodd, 92, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care 
facility on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005.
     She was born July 22, 1912, Wendling, Ore., the oldest of three children 
to Arthur Butler and Margaret E. (Criss) Garrison. She grew up and attended 
school in Hood River.
     She married John William Byers on July 2, 1931, and they operated a truck 
garden farm on Fifteen Mile Road. 
     She married William "Orval" Dodd in September 1967 and he preceded her in 
death in 1995.
     She was a member of Degree of Honor and enjoyed gardening and her dogs.
     She is survived by her son, John W. Byers and his wife, Marilyn, The 
Dalles; step children, Ron and Ken Dodd, Orville, CA; grandchildren, Karilyn 
Gross, Kent, WA; Becky Coulson, Nancy Jones and John H. Byers, all of The 
Dalles; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was also 
preceded in death by her daughter, Muriel Epley in 1994; her brother, Leroy 
Garrison and sister, Luella.
     At her request, no public services will be held and private family 
services will be held at a later date. Private cremation was held at The 
Dalles Win-quatt Crematory and interment of cremains at The Dalles 18th Street 
IOOF Cemetery. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
     Remembrances may be made to the Columbia Basin Care Facility Foundation, 
1014 Webber Street, The Dalles, OR 97058.
