Surnames: Delaney, Straub, Gibson, Hansen, Elliott, Godsil, Greer, Welsh Velma Belle Delaney, 81, a resident of Wishram (Washington), died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at a local care facility. She was born February 2, 1922 in Padroni, Colorado to Chester and Flossie (Straub) Gibson. She grew up in southern California and Taos County, New Mexico. In her mid-teens she moved to Ellensburg, Washington to live with her sister Florence Hansen and family. She later moved to Wishram in order to work for schoolteacher Dorothy Warren and her family. There she met Ralph Delaney and they were married June 28, 1941 at her sister's home in Ellensburg. She worked for the railroad café known as "The Beanery" in Wishram for a number of years and later retired from the railroad. She was known for her fudge and divinity and her freshly-baked bread each Thursday. Survivors include her husband, Ralph, Wishram; daughter Lorna Elliott, The Dalles; son Terryl Delaney and his wife Pauline, Monroe, New York; three grandchildren, David Elliott and his wife, Gladys, Beaverton (Oregon); granddaughter Debra Delaney, Ramsey, New Jersey; and grandson, Dr. David Delaney, Boston, Massachuettes; her sister Ruth Godsil, Camas, Washington; and two brothers, Sherman and Robert Gibson, Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Fred and sister Florence Greer, daughter Kathleen Gayle Welsh and grandson Gary Lee Elliott, Jr. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 21, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in The Dalles with her son, the Reverend Terryl Delaney presiding. Arrangements were by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
