The Dalles Chronicle, January 24, 2006
     Leo Decker, 70, a resident of Kent, died at a local care center on 
Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006.
     He was born July 25, 1935, in Poplar Bluff, Mont., the third of five 
children to Thomas Hard and Alice Sclesta Kay (Wright) Decker. He grew up in 
Poplar Bluff and Kansas City, Kansas.
     He served in the Air Force from October 1954 to October 1957 and then was 
a member of the Army National Guard. After the service, he returned to Kansas 
City to work for the railroad and as a truck driver. He moved to The Dalles in 
1974, working at Baxter Tie Plant then settled in Kent in the mid 1980’s. He 
also worked as caretaker for Klickitat County Parks.
     He enjoyed hunting, making windmills, playing musical instruments 
including the banjo, mandolin, guitar, harmonica and violin, and he loved to 
sing. 
     He is survived by his daughter, Connie Lathrop, Addy, Wash.; four 
grandchildren, Adam Sutherland, Portland; April Sutherland and Joshua Lathrop, 
The Dalles; and Jennifer Martin and husband, Steve, Cascade Locks; five great 
grandchildren, Felicia, Isaac, Lilly, Syna and Hunter, his brother, Ernie 
Decker, Prineville; numerous nieces and nephews including Tommy Decker. He was 
preceded in death by his brother, Sammie and sisters, Anna and Virginia.
     Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, at Spencer, 
Libby & Powell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at The Dalles 18th Street 
IOOF Cemetery.
