Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 8, 2006, 12:47 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, July 7, 1983 George Hugh Dean, 80, a lifelong resident of the Mid-Columbia area, died Friday morning at the hospital. He was born July 7, 1902 in Lyle, Wash. Mr. Dean taught school for a year in Lyle, then worked in a sawmill and later worked as a carpenter for most of his life. He was a member of the Seebees in the Navy in World War II and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners for 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Tressie, The Dalles, whom he married on July 25, 1925; a son, Philip Dean, Glenwood, Wash.; a daughter, Margaret Franks, Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Alice Lamm, Sedro Wooley, Wash.; and Neva Bowles, Vancouver, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A daughter, Faye, died earlier. Funeral services were at The Dalles IOOF Memorial Mausoleum Tuesday with the Rev. Thornton Gapan officiating. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Oregon Lung Association.
