Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 7, 2006, 2:26 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, February 23, 1996 Edwin "Ed" Elmer Day Sr., 65, The Dalles, died at his home on Feb. 15, 1996. Mr. Day was born in Denver, Colo., on May 30, 1930, the third of four children to Hubbard and Alta (Wetzler) Day. He grew up in Bend, graduating from high school there in 1948. He served in the Navy Seabees from July 21, 1948 to July 18, 1952, during the Korean War. He moved to The Dalles in the mid-1950s, where he worked as a mechanic, maintenance man and firefighter for the Wasco County Fire Department. He started Precision Imports in the late 1960s, operating it until the late 1980s; later he worked for Cascade Motors. He also worked as doorman and janitor at The Dalles Eagles Lodge. Mr. Day was a member of the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed sailboats, motorcycles, art and painting. He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean (Ott), The Dalles, whom he married Sept. 2, 1962, in The Dalles; a son, Edwin E. Day Jr., and his wife, Debbie, The Dalles; two daughters: Diane Day, The Dalles, and Kathy Baker, Salem; his mother, Alta Day, The Dalles; grandchildren: Kyla Day, The Dalles; Jennifer Snook and Joeleen Copeland, Salem; Tiffany, Brian and David Grant, The Dalles; a great-grandson, Cody Snook; stepchildren: Glory Jean Baker, Vancouver; and John and step-granddaughter, Angel Baker, Delmar, Calif.; a sister, Elaine Day, Mosier; a brother, Hubbard Day Jr., and wife, Lou, McMinnville; and several nieces and nephews. Viewing visitation was at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Feb. 18. Services were Monday, Feb. 19, the Rev. Karl Vercouteren officiating with Eagles Lodge rites.
