The Dalles Chronicle, February 15, 2005
    Melba L. Day, 86, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility 
on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005.
     She was born Sept. 6, 1918, in The Dalles, the older of two children born 
to David and Ivy (Flynn) Sharpe. She was raised in The Dalles and graduated 
from The Dalles High School.
     She married Kenny Day in 1940, and they resided in The Dalles. She worked 
as a secretary most of her life before retiring from R.A. Twiss Plumbing & 
Heating, then for Best Plumbing & Heating. 
     She was an active member in the First Christian Church, spending most of 
her time as a Sunday School teacher and working as a church secretary under 
ministers, Johnson and Rev. Ron Coleman.
     She enjoyed spending time with her husband at their Mt. Hood cabin where 
she hosted many family get-togethers. She loved to work in her yard, travel, 
and most of all, spend time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
     She is survived by two children, Jim and his wife, Sharon Day, The 
Dalles; Sharon and her husband, Pat Wright, Yamhill; three grandchildren, John 
Day, Salem; Kerrie and her husband, John Grochau, Portland; and Julie and her 
husband, Sean Magnuson, Vernonia; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Tabor. 
     She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999 and by her brother, 
Welby Sharpe in 1997.
     Graveside services will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights 
Road at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, with Rev. Lynn Taylor officiating. 
Smith Callaway Chapel is in care of arrangements.
     Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 1311 NW 
221st Avenue, Portland, OR 97209.
