She was born the oldest of three children to John T. and Hannah L. (Krauss) Davenport on Aug. 28, 1911 at the home of her grandparents, George and Caroline Krauss in The Dalles. The Krauss and Davenport families settled in The Dalles and Mosier in the mid-1800’s. She lived in the Davenport home in Mosier and in The Dalles all of her life, attending school in both communities. Upon the death of her father in 1925, she moved with her mother and younger sister and brother to the Krauss home at the top of Trevitt Street. After working at Foster’s Bakery, she cared for her mother for many years until Hannah Davenport’s death in 1964. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, WCTU, and was an officer with the Chapter of the Blind. She is survived by her brother and his wife, G. Lewis and Elma Davenport, Vancouver and their sons, Charles, of Vancouver, Wash. and Ed, Gainesville, Ga.; niece, Carita Poe, Chandler, Ariz.; nephew, Philip Hammond and his wife, Sandy, The Dalles; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her sister Carolyn M. Hammond on March 29, 2003 in The Dalles. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 2 to 7 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Graveside services will be held at the Odd Fellows Cemetery on Three Mile Road on Friday, Nov. 7, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Steve Anable officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home are in care of arrangements.
