Wakley iwakley@msn.com and August 3, 2006, 12:19 am The Dalles Chronicle, April 28, 2006 Richard Sherman Cumiford, 63, a resident of The Dalles, died Thursday, April 27, 2006, in a Portland hospital. He was born in Logan, Iowa, on Sept. 6, 1942, to Howard and Nona (Clevenger) Cumiford. The second of three children, he grew up in Logan until high school, then moved to Wenatchee, then The Dalles. He served in the Army from 1962 until 1965. He married Nylene Braget (whom he later separated from) on Nov. 19, 1966, in The Dalles, and was a welder at the aluminum plant in Goldendale, Wash., and he enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife, Nylene Cumiford, The Dalles; daughter Lynette and Jeff Cochell, Newberg; son Randy and Vicki Cumiford, The Dalles; grandsons Colby Cochell, Newberg; Austen Cochell, Newberg; and Justin Long, The Dalles; brother Lairy Cumiford, Portland; and his sister Jannice Monson, New Iberia, La. He was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service will be held at the IOOF Threemile cemetery on Saturday, May 6, at 11 a.m. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
