She was born in The Dalles on April 4, 1948 and grew up on her family ranch in Moro. She was active in horsemanship from the time she was young until her early 40s. She was an active 4-H member and in later years a 4-H adviser. She was a successful quarter horse showman. She was the youngest participant ever to win the Northwest Quarter Horse championship in Walla Walla . She completed grade and high school in Sherman County. She was a graduate of Western Oregon University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. It was at college that she met her husband, Mike. They were engaged on Christmas Day 1968 and married Aug. 24, 1969. She taught school for a short time in Salem before his graduation from college. They completed college and he received a commission in the U.S. Air Force and they traveled around the United States during his career. They returned to Sherman County and operated the family farm for 23 years. They had two children, Bryan, born in 1976, and Darren, born in 1979. They had a farm in Nyssa and move to Donnelly, Idaho in 2000. She helped with the family business, taking care of the books and accounting activities and worked for a short time as a teacher’s aide in McCall, Idaho, and did volunteer work for the McCall Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed her home and garden and attending her boys’ sporting activities. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Moro and later the Community Methodist Church in Nyssa. Survivors include her husband, Mike, Donnelly; Bryan and his wife, Elizabeth, Moro; and Darren and his fiancée, Colleen, Mukilteo, Wash; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Keck and Velma McKean, and her only sibling, her sister, Nancy Jackson. A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. at the Moro Presbyterian Church.
