The Dalles Chronicle, January 20, 2004
    Katherine Margaret (Benich) Cowan, 86, a resident of The Dalles, died on 
Jan. 6, 2004 in Fresno, Calif., with her family surrounding her.
     She was born on Nov. 14, 1917 in Republic, Pa. She and her late husband 
Robert were longtime residents of The Dalles where they owned and operated 
Cowan’s Jewelers for more than 20 years.
     Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert, and son, David.
     She is survived by her daughter, Susan Williams, Kerman, Calif.; sons, 
Robert Joy, Modesto, Calif.; and Richard Cowan, Salem; sister, Marie 
Kranwinkle, Florida; grandchildren, Lisa Ward-Lingo and Michael Ward, Kerman; 
Steven Joy and Shawn Lee, Modesto; Richard Cowan Jr., Hillsboro; Chris Cowan, 
Springfield; Shannon Carbonne, Portland; and 14 great-grandchildren.
     Private services will be held at a later date.
