He was born in The Dalles March 21, 1897, to George and Elizabeth (Flegg) Covert. Mr. Covert served in the U.S. Army during World War I and was a member of the VFW. He was also a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He worked as a carpenter in the construction industry prior to his retirement. Survivors include a son-in-law, Sparky Lewis, The Dalles; five grandsons, George R. Lewis, Sunnyvale, Calif.; Wallace J. Lewis, The Dalles; Dennis J. Lewis, Wamic; Donald R. Lewis, The Dalles; and Roger M. Lewis, Rainier. His wife Mary Isabelle Covert, died in May of 1985. Recitation of the rosary was April 15 at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, April 16 at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Ronald Maag as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.
