The Dalles Weekly Reminder, December 15, 1983
     Glenn R. Cooper, 80, a longtime resident of The Dalles, died Tuesday in a 
Portland hospital following a stroke.
     He was born Oct. 3, 1903 in The Dalles.
     Cooper and his son, David, operated Cooper Orchards in The Dalles.
     He was past president of the Old Wasco County Pioneer Association, Wasco 
County Historical Society, he served on the Dist. 12 school board from 1954-64 
and his son, David, now serves on the board.
     Cooper was active in the Wasco County Farm Bureau, The Dalles Cherry 
Growers Cooperative, and was named Farmer of the Year by The Dalles Area 
Chamber of Commerce in 1980.
     Survivors include his wife, Florence, The Dalles; two sons, David, The 
Dalles, and Donald, San Jose, Calif.; a brother Ralph, Portland; two sisters, 
Ruth Adkisson, Milton-Freewater, and Helen Shipe, Pendleton; three 
grandchildren, and nieces and nephews includng Mrs. Kent (Marge) Smith, The 
Dalles.
     Funeral services were Saturday at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home 
with the Rev. Delmer Anderson officiating.  Burial followed at The Dalles IOOF 
Cemetery.
     Honorary casketbearers were Dick Renken, Don Bailey, Walt Mellenthin, 
Alvin Clark, John Arnes, Ernie Kuck, Don Heisler, Herman Ziegler, Willis 
Kaufman and Harold Woolsey.
     Active casket bearers were Mel Omeg, Bob Bailey, Marvin Polehn, Norris 
Brown, Merve Frank and Larry Hughes
     Memorials are suggested to the Crippled Childrens Fund in care of George 
Sprecht, or to favorite charities.
