She was born Sept. 1, 1906 in Huron, S.D., the daughter of Fred and Elsie (Pierce) Codworth. She owned and operated the old Quonset Hut Cafe and worked at the White House Cafe in Bingen while receiving her teaching certificate at Central Washington in Ellensburg. She married Melvin Conklin on Dec. 15, 952. She taught grades three-four at Bingen School and at Whitson Elementary in White Salmon, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Emblem Club and Auxiliary and Rebekahs Lodge. She enjoyed playing cards and traveling and visiting with friends and family. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Galene Rake, Tygh Valley; granddaughter, Teresa Wilson, Maupin; step-granddaughter, Jolene Wedrick, White Salmon; Patsy Busick, The Dalles; and Karen Brown, Tygh Valley; and 10 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, and a son, Fred Rake, in 1998. Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon with interment in the White Salmon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Gorge.
