He was born Sept. 19, 1930 in The Dalles, the third of four children to Luigi Mario and Florence (Iams) Comini. He attended St. Mary’s Academy through the eighth grade and graduated from The Dalles High School. Mr. Comini worked for Oregon State Forestry from 1948 until entering the U.S. Army in March 1951. He served with the 34th Combat Engineers’ Battalion and was discharged in March 1953. He served as Wasco County Fire Chief from 1953 until starting with The Dalles Fire Department on Aug. 1, 1954, serving until Aug. 1, 1969. He owned and operated the Union Oil Distributorship in The Dalles from 1965 until 1973. On May 1, 1974, he purchased The Dalles Liquor Store and operated it until his retirement in March 1997. He served as a Wasco County commissioner for two terms in the late 1970s and ’80s, as well as on the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center board, Ft. Dalles Museum board and the board of Liquor Agents Association, where he had been an officer. He was a member of Eagles Lodge and American Legion and a past member of Elks Lodge #303 and Wasco County Sheriff’s Reserve. Mr. Comini is survived by his wife, Laura Morris Comini, whom he married Feb. 17, 1955, in The Dalles; his son, Ron Comini; his daughter, Angela Comini and her children, Ben Slusher, Rebecca Denley and Jacob Comini, all of The Dalles; his twin brother and wife, Ted and Dale Comini, Prineville; their children, Debbie, Salem; Lenna, Portland and Jeff, Prinville; his brother, Lynn and wife, Shirley Comini, John Day and their daughter, Lisa Haindel, Bend; sister-in-law, Mamie Comini and her daughter, Karen Myers, both of Thousand Oaks, CA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Cal Comini on Jan. 23, 2003. Graveside services will be held in the Veterans’ Section at IOOF Three Mile Cemetery on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Asa Jenson and Pastor John Westhafer officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Ft.
