He was born October 23, 1925, in Nara Visa, New Mexico to Luther and Mary (Faulkes) Coleman. He served for 10 years in the U.S. Army Air Force and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He married Patricia Jeanne Kendall on July 4, 1964, in McMinnville (Oregon) and they lived in various areas of Oregon before moving to Dallesport (Washington) in 1975. He retired from SDS Lumber as a saw and small engine mechanic in 1989, at which time they moved to Echo (Oregon) where he lived for 12 years before suffering a stroke in 2000. He loved camping with his family, puttering around in his shop building bird houses, and having coffee with friends. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Echo, where he served as the Chaplin. Preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, he is survived by his wife Patricia, The Dalles; son Fred Coleman and his wife Robin, The Dalles; daughter, Francene Nash and her husband, Bob, Dallesport; stepchildren, Cheryl Oldman and her husband Sonny, Ocean City, Washington; and George Kendall and his wife Lisa, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Alvy Kendall, Anchorage, Alaska. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, three nieces, four nephews, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes there will be no public services; the family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Veterans' Home, 700 Veterans Drive, The Dalles, Oregon 97058. Arrangements were by Columbia Cremation & Burial. The Dalles Chronicle December 2, 2002.
