May 2003 ********************************************************************************* Surnames: Cichy, Kreimin, Prellwitz, Wise, Thomas, Dawkins, Ousman, Schoephoerster Janice Elaine Cichy, 73, a resident of The Dalles, died at a local care facility on Wednesday, May 14, 2003. She was born April 29, 1930, in Taunton, Minnesota, the sixth of eight children to George William and Ina Emma (Kreimin) Prellwitz. She was raised on a farm near Taunton and graduated from high school in the class of 1948, at Canby, Minnesota. She married Ralph J. Cichy on March 16, 1950 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. They moved to Hermiston (Oregon) in 1951 and then to The Dalles in 1953. Ralph came west working construction and later worked as a bread route salesman. She retired from the Oregon Cherry Growers after 21 years of full-time employment in the early 1980s and then worked for the Laboratory Corporation of America as a medical courier. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Eagles Lodge, Ladies of the Elks, Emblem Club where she was in charge of bingo for many years. She enjoyed being a homemaker, her family, the outdoors, gardening and yard work. She was an avid Portland Trailblazer fan through thick and thin. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Kenneth Cichy and Beverly Teter, Portland; Sandy and Jim Wise, Dallesport (Washington); Cheri and Dan Thomas, Portland; Kathy and Bart Dawkins, The Dalles; Gregory Cichy, The Dalles; David and Emma Cichy, Lynnwood, Washington; 12 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; brothers, Rodney Prellwitz, Stevensville, Montana; Orvin Prellwitz, Camarillo, California; sisters, Audrey Ousman, Pueblo, Colorado and La Verna Schoephoerster, Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, in October 1965, one infant son and three brothers. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. with viewing and visitation continuing until 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church Monday, 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Todd Unger officiating.
