He was born Jan. 4, 1931, in Portland, the younger of two boys to Louis A. and Lillian (Shields) Chyles. He was raised and attended schools in the Park Rose Area of Portland. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving for a few years. He came back to Portland, working with the Multnomah County Police Department. He also worked as a manager for several service stations and taught drafting to inmates at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem. He moved to Maupin in 1993. He loved his dogs and enjoyed fish. He is survived by his former wife, Patsy R. Pryor, Gresham, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, who died during World War II. Public funeral services will not be held. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Smith Callaway Chapel in care of arrangements.
