She was born Feb. 17, 1920 in Monitor. She graduated from Mt. Angel College in 1941, and has remained a firm friend and supporter of the Benedictine Sisters all of her life. She worked in her early years as a high school English teacher in Scappoose and Silverton, and in the drafting records department at the Swan Island shipyards in Portland during World War II, then the Dalles Chronicle. While working for the Chronicle, she took photographs of Celilo Falls with some of Kodak’s first color film. These photographs were printed and sold in the Dalles, and can be seen on display at the Celilo Center, Veterans Home, and the Art Box. Following World War II, she made an extraordinary trip to Norway, followed by lectures and slide presentations in The Dalles upon her return. She met her husband, Davis Chaney, while working at the local newspaper in Coos Bay. The family later moved to Monroe, Wash., where she worked for many years as a volunteer at Valley General Hospital. She is survived by her daughter Jennifer Croft, son-in-law Jerry Croft, and grandchildren Krista, Michael and Becca; a sister Dorothy (Vernon) Tenneson; sister-in-law Zelpha Anderson; and eleven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Davis, her brother Bob Anderson, and her parents Emil and Rebecca (Ramberg) Anderson. A funeral service will be held at Libby, Spencer and Powell on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m with Pastor Dorothy Nielsen of Zion Lutheran Church officiating.
